harlo and its iPhone app
harlo runs coding agents (Claude Code, OpenCode, pi, Oh My Pi) on your own computer. The iPhone app lets you follow your sessions, answer their questions and approve their actions from your phone.
Getting started
- Install harlo on your computer (Linux) and start it.
- In harlo, click the phone button at the bottom of the left rail (Pair a device). It shows a QR code.
- Open the iPhone app and scan the code. The app is now paired with that computer.
Without a computer, Try the demo on the app's first screen shows sample sessions. It connects to nothing.
Common questions
The app can't reach my computer
- harlo has to be running on the computer.
- On the same Wi-Fi it connects directly. Away from home, pair over Tailscale, or choose From anywhere in harlo's Pair a device (it goes through harlo's relay, end-to-end encrypted).
- If harlo says the computer's firewall blocks the phone, click Allow in that notice.
- Allow Local Network for harlo in the iPhone's Settings → Privacy & Security.
I don't get notifications
- Allow notifications for harlo in the iPhone's Settings → Notifications.
- In harlo on the computer, Settings → Devices → iPhone notifications sends a test notification.
- Notifications come while the app is closed; with it open, you see the session itself.
- If you set quiet hours (harlo's Settings → Notifications), notifications in those hours arrive silently in Notification Center.
Live Activities and the widget
- A session you send a message to from the phone shows on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island while it works. Turn this on or off in the app's Settings → Notifications.
- The home screen widget shows your sessions; add it from the home screen's edit mode.
Dictation
Tap the mic beside a message and speak; tap it again to stop. Allow the microphone and speech recognition when the iPhone asks. The language follows the phone, or pick one in the app's Settings → Dictation.
Unpairing
In the app: Settings → Forget harlo. In harlo on the computer: Settings → Devices, then remove the phone.
Updating harlo
At startup and twice a day, harlo looks for a new version and offers it in a notice (Settings → General → Check for updates turns this off). It updates with your system's package manager (it asks for your password), or replaces the AppImage, then offers to restart.
Something's wrong on the computer
Report it on GitHub, or email me. Say which Linux you run and which agent the session used.
Privacy
harlo has no accounts and collects nothing about you; what passes between the app and your computer is end-to-end encrypted. See the privacy policy.
